Dusting this thing off

I know it’s been a while since I last blogged, especially regularly. Most of that has to do with my bright idea that I would wait for the new Movable Type 5 to be released so I could have an excuse to migrate my blog to a new directory (which I did) and set up a new installation of MT. My old installation appeared to be moving pretty slow, and I just wasn’t happy with everything. Anyway, pardon my dust. I did some mod_rewrites of my old URLs, so hopefully everything should be in order. I still have some things to add to the site, but I will fix those later today.

As for me, I literally spent two months in LA (mid Nov – mid Jan) because I was hiding from the weather. I cannot stress how much I do not like snow. I’ve been back in NYC for a week now, and so far we are in the extremely warm (for winter) temps of the mid-40s. Break out the tank tops and shorts. Never one to stick around for possible snow happenings, I am on my way back to LA this weekend for some fun in the sun, medical appointments, and hopefully a week or so in San Francisco with one of my best girlfriends from college. Yes, running your own business online affords you the comfort of last minute, flexible (and cheap) flying, as well as the opportunity to work from anywhere with an internet connection.

I have some exciting things coming up, which I will be writing about later on this week (or later today). More, soon…

VSB: First Press

For those who didn’t catch it on my Twitter, Flickr and Facebook
accounts, Very Smart Brothas.com was featured in The Metro News
yesterday in three markets (Boston, NYC, and Philadelphia).vsb_metro_scan.jpg

To say I was ecstatic is an understatement. A few months ago, Panama and  The Champ came to me  and said they had a blog concept in mind, with specific goals to be attained with said blog. They had their content ideas fleshed out, with a few strategic ideas being tossed around as well. I volunteered myself to make it happen on the tech side, and advised them on site strategy. Since then I have been working as an advisor/manager for the site.

Forty-five posts and 7,000+ comments later, the community over there is awesome, and is growing everyday. I’ve been applying many of the concepts I learned in my master’s program to the site, and I’m also testing out some other ideas. Even though the site looks pretty basic (for now), a lot of thought and debate goes on behind the scenes between the three of us. I am personally close with both of these gentlemen, and I have a couple academic degrees that certify me as Internet Expert #1, but they don’t let me get away with just anything. Ha. It’s great though, because I get practice in defending and supporting my arguements and cases for the strategies I pitch. So far, everything has been working better  than we ever expected.

Aside from that, I think it’s pretty cool to see Panama’s words in print in somebody’s newspaper. That’s my BFF right there.

Favorite New Blog

Two of my really good friends have decided to go half on a blog and impart their wisdom on the world: Very Smart Brothas. If you’ve caught me on Twitter, MySpace or Facebook for the past week, I’ve been pushin’ the blog like my life depended on it. Just a lil sly marketing on my part.

I hold these two men very close to my heart, by the way. The blog isn’t for everyone (or all ages), but it focuses on love and relationships from a Very Smart Brotha point of view. Over the years, ‘Panama’ and ‘The Champ’ have been my go-to dudes when I need relationship/love advice. They give it to me straight, but then again, they may be the reasons why I stay single. Ha. Just kidding. They’ve talked me down from and out of the stickiest of dating situations. Anyway, I’m glad they can share their wit, humor, and thoughts on relationships with everyone. Check it out.

Intro

It’s late and I’m up tooling away on Movable Type. I think this is my retirement comeback from the MT beast. I’ve been dabbling in WordPress the past few years, but back in 2003 I came on the scene using MT. MT4 is kinda fresh, so I’ll keep this installation up so I can stay on top of what’s going on.
