What I Do

I'm a new media consultant who wears many hats for my clients. What exactly is a new media consultant and what kinds of things do I do? I'm glad you asked. Here is a list of things I love to do for my clients:

  • Strategic Advisor: I'm good at assessing your digital project and figuring out what's missing, what can be improved, and what goals you should be shooting for. I am always on top of new web trends and advise my clients on what the next step should be for their projects.
  • Product Developer: I'm great at helping you explore your bright Internet idea and getting the details translated into a document (called a spec doc) where a developer and designer can create a final product with ease. I hammer out the technical specifications of websites and applications to get your project jump-started.  I review works in progress, or draft spec docs from the very beginning. The types of projects I like to work on range from a simple blog, a small website, large content publishing sites, Facebook applications, widgets, or social networks. My next frontier? Mobile applications.
  • Project Manager: Once an idea has been mapped out, you need a team of people working to get your product to launch. I assess and manage current teams in place, or I can form a new team from my professional contacts and keen awareness of industry professionals. I'm highly selective with who I work with, so please believe you are getting quality talent in every team.
  • Technical Producer: I am able to get my hands dirty with code and/or design. XHTML/CSS and PHP are my specialties, and I am well-versed with advanced customization of open source content management systems such as WordPress, Movable Type or Drupal.
  • Content Producer: I've been writing online for over 10 years, and have a thorough understanding of web publishing. I have previously written for Clutch Magazine, PBS.org, Black Web 2.0, and GRAMMY.com, in addition to my personal blogging. I often write about entertainment, small business, travel, consumer electronics, Internet trends and social media.
  • Community Builder: I assist clients with developing the right tools and practices that are conducive to building strong communities online.
  • Social Media Advisor/Manager: There is an art to building and managing your social media presence. I take into account the special needs and resources of my clients to deliver solid social media plans. I can get my hands dirty or train your staff on how to maintain these practices.
  • Speaker: I have been invited to speak at conferences and give lectures and presentations as a social media evangelist and online community member. Places I have lectured or been a featured panelist: SXSW, MIT, NABJ Los Angeles, and FIT.
That's quite the list! The industries I tend to work in are those related to:
  • online publishing (entertainment/gossip, music, news)
  • broadcast media
  • underrepresented minorities
  • non-profit organizations (advancement/development)

If you think I can help you with your project, hire me. Please tell me more about you and your project here.
