About Liz
In short, everything on this page essentially means one thing: I'm a nerd.
The Skinny
I'm a 26 year old bi-racial girl (Black & Dineh), originally from New Mexico, and raised in Southern California.
Schoolin' Me
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Comparative Media Studies from MIT, and I am in my second year of graduate studies at USC's Annenberg Program for Online Communities. It's a one year program though. You do the math.
Work It
I love the web. I work in the web. Or, is that on the web? Or both? Ha. I'm an Interactive Project Manager for New Media at KCET, the Los Angeles PBS affiliate. Mostly, I get to think up social media strategies for our local, national, and off-air shows. It's a cool gig.
Social Media Butterfly
I started blogging in late 2002 on one of them there hosted blogging platforms. I quickly hated the inflexibility of hosted blogs, so I figured out how to host my own blog on my own site. Thus, a star was born. Not really, I spent many years lurking, reading tons of blogs, writing my own blogs, ending and starting new blogs. These days, I pretty much spend most of my 'net time on social media type sites. The flickrs, the Twitters, and such. The cool thing is, all my years of
Hobbies, or lack thereof
My hobby really is the web. I know, I sound real non-well-rounded. I like to design & develop sites when I really get the time to sit and chill. Designing and developing for the web is how I started on the web. I'm not saying I'm the bomb designer, but I definitely love learning and practicing design and development when I have the time. Other hobbies entail listening to good music, watching good and bad TV. I also like to write, at least, in terms of screenwriting. I also am a big time sorority girl.
Career Interests
Originally I wanted to be a screenwriter for television (sitcoms) and eventually a show runner (I know, why go to MIT for this?). Funny thing happened on my way to film school: the Internet became the biggest distraction, and well, the Internet is taking over. These days, I'm interested in working with how television (and celebrities) interact and intersect with the web. I think TV hates the web, and (maybe) vice versa. I truly believe TV and the web can get along and benefit from one another, if they would just ack rite. I think of myself as someone who can be the peacemaker between the two. Or at least, I want a front-row seat to all the fights.
Other Interests
I'm Black. I'm Native American (Navajo, for the slow folks). I'm female. I am always interested in how these groups use the web, as well as how they're represented in this space.
